For the uninitiated, "Vic Falls" was known by the locals as Mosi-oa-tunya, which means "the Smoke that Thunders", then along came David Livingstone in 17 November 1855, and named them after his queen. Ever since then the unusually accessible waterfall has been a source of amazement and inspiration for anybody taking the time to visit them. The rainforest, the spray, the gaping chasm and the abundant wildlife cannot fail to impress even the most cynical of travellers.
